The pitch is real: 300 days of sun, mountains 45 minutes away, a tech scene that's no longer punching as small as it used to, and salaries that have caught up to most second-tier metros.

The pitch has caveats. Colorado's 4.4% flat state income tax does eat into Texas-equivalent offers. And Denver-area housing has run hot — median home price is now over $620K.

When Denver Wins

Denver is the right call if (a) the outdoor lifestyle is genuinely part of why you're choosing a city, and (b) you can find roles in tech, cloud, aerospace, or energy that pay above $130K. Below that pay band the cost-of-living math gets uncomfortable relative to less-trendy alternatives like Kansas City, Cincinnati, or Indianapolis.
